2011 Jamboree Battle in the Park Rules

Grand Prize: $2000 cash and opening slot on Sunday
Runner Up: $1000 and opening slot on Saturday


1. All entry packets must be received by April 30th, 2011. Only 10 groups will be selected by the Geraldton Music Jamboree Committee members to play on July 29, 2011 as part of the live competition. The selected groups will be notified by telephone or email.

2. Incomplete entries will be disqualified. Bands must submit the application form and demo CD, or link to a band website with a minimum of 3 songs to Dori Gignac, pgignacozzy@sympatico.ca, P.O. Box 1234, Geraldton, ON P0T 1M0 by 4:00 p.m. April 30th, 2011. Photos, bios, etc. are welcomed but not necessary. Materials will not be returned. Video of a performance is highly encouraged, but not required, and may substitute for audio file.

3. Each band that competes at the Jamboree Battle in the Park on July 29, 2011 must play for a minimum of 20 minutes and not to exceed 25 minutes.

4. A stage crew will be on hand to assist each band in setting up. It is the band's responsibility to set gear and be ready to perform within the allotted time.

5. Stage management has final say on all activities on stage. Any band going over the maximum 25 minute limit, or disregarding event management's direction about anything, including safety and time, may be disqualified or powered off.

6. Judges will determine a runner up who will be awarded $1,000 and be the opening act (60 minute set) Saturday, July 30, 2011. Judges will determine the winner who will be awarded $2,000 and be the opening act (60 minute set) Sunday, July 31, 2011. Both winners will have accommodation at a local establishment for the night that they are the opening act.

7. If your group is chosen to compete in the Jamboree Battle in the Park, you must be available to perform anytime from 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2011. Time requests will not be considered, no time slots are guaranteed, and if you enter, you need to be available at any time.

8. All bands are required to supply name, phone number and email address of their contact person. All correspondence will be ONLY with the contact person.

9. Geraldton Jamboree Battle in the Park is open to amateurs only. For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is somebody without a major-label recording contract who makes less than half their annual income by performing.

10. The Geraldton Music Jamboree is not responsible for any damage or theft during the Jamboree Battle in the Park. ONLY Band members are responsible for the security of their equipment and the event organizers cannot be held liable for any lost, damaged, or stolen equipment.

11. The entire performance must be live – no prerecorded music is allowed.

12. Criteria to be considered in judging will include:
 Music (this criteria is based on clarity, lyrical content and overall musical performance) 1 – 10 points.
 Stage Presence, Band Enthusiasm and Attitude (this criteria is based on how well the band “rocks out”) 1 – 5 points.
 Appearance and Personality (this criteria is based on overall look and personality. If you want to be a rock star you need to look the part). 1 – 5 points.

Judges will award points in each category using a point system. If bands end up in a tie, the following individual category scores will decide the winner (in order): Music, Stage Presentation.

13. All bands agree to have their name, voice, and/or likenesses used in any advertising or broadcasting material relating to this contest without any compensation or rights to royalties for such use.

14. Backline is provided by the festival. Bands need to bring their own guitars, pedals, bass and the drummer can bring his own snare and cymbals if he wishes.

15. Any bands that fail to submit their application with demo CD, website link and/or optional video performance will not be considered for Geraldton Music Jamboree Battle in the Park. All bands selected to play in the Jamboree Battle in the Park will be notified by phone and email, NO LATER THAN May 15, 2011.
